Maypole Bakery is to invest in a new bakery at Tal-Handaq Industrial Estate and will also open five new shops, the Prime Minister was told during a tour of the current bakery in Qormi.

The visit was made as part of May 1 Workers' Day events organised by the Nationalist Party.

Company directors said the need for the new bakery was felt because of increased demand and diversification of products.

Maypole was set up in the 1970s and has a string of shops across Malta.

The PN said the theme of its May 1 events this year was solidarity - ‘Bix-xoghol insahhu s-solidarjeta’.
