Opposition to second Speaker's nomination
The Opposition confirmed this evening that it will second the nomination of Michael Frendo to serve as Speaker of the House of Representatives.
The announcement was made by Opposition whip Joe Mizzi at a meeting of the House Business Committee.
Dr Frendo will take over from Louis Galea in the Chair on Thursday. Dr Galea will formally become a member of the European Court of Auditors on May 7.
The appointments will be made during a special sitting of Parliament. The first step will be Dr Frendo's resignation from the House and the co-option of Mr Gouder.
Dr Galea will then announce his resignation and the Prime Minister will move a motion for the appointment of Dr Frendo to succeed him.

Another valid PN politician...Thank you Louis and welcome Michael
When one comnpares the Parliamentary Group one can easily note the new faces within the PN, especially when compared with that of the opposition side - most of them are entitled for Karta Anzjan, how progressive this party is.
Tmexxija serja min Lawrence Gonzi......

That is political maturity on Joseph Muscat's part.
Hit hard where it hurts.

The rule of democracy states the elected party has a right to govern and put forward its electoral programme for implementation. It is the Cabinet's responsibility to govern by safeguarding the present law and enact new ones in line with such programme. It is also the PM's responsibility to ensure governability during the tenure of the elected representatives.

The first one who showed political maturity was Prime Minister Gonzi when he nominated George Abela for presidency. Dr Muscat does well if he seconds the nomination of Michael Frendo. It means he's following the good example of Dr Gonzi.

Great...so the opposition is now helping the government in using legal acrobatics to keep its wafer-thin majority. Frendo DOES NOT need to vacate his seat to be Speaker as he is a Member of Parliament. This is ridiculous...a sitting MP resigning his seat, only to be nominated a few days later to BECOME AGAIN an MP.
