Hunters' organisation condemns vandalism
The Association for Hunting & Conservation – Mellieħa (GħKNK Mellieħa) strongly condemned the vandalism at Foresta 2000, as well as the ongoing vandalism at L-Aħrax tal-Mellieħa in afforested areas.
In a statement the association said hunters and trappers were the pioneers of tree planting and would never accept dirty tactics or unfounded accusations to tarnish responsible hunters and trappers.
Association members actively participated in an environment conservation programme, which included tree planting and pruning, the building and restoration of rubble walls, restoration of corbelled huts (giren) and the collection of illegally dumped rubbish.
The organisation said it planted a number of trees each year, including 200 this year. These trees were vandalized a number of times, but, unfortunately, these vandal acts have not been put under the media spotlight.
The GħKNK Mellieħa said it had also offered BirdLife Malta to participate on a voluntary basis in the Foresta 2000 project in 2003.
“We regret to state that the reply from BirdLife was that all societies in Mellieħa were welcome, except the hunters’ organisation,” they said.
“Whilst appealing to the police to increase their efforts to apprehend the perpetrators, we urge the Mellieħa council to take all necessary steps to ensure that these acts are not repeated,” the GħKNK said.

So FKNK " would never accept dirty tactics or unfounded accusations to tarnish responsible hunters and trappers". Good to hear, what about the irresponsible hunters ?? What do you say about those members ?? Ouch there's a sore point. !!!!!

regarding the fact that the vandal act on the trees planted by the FKNK just shows the double standard adopted by the media not only on this issue but across large number of issues

If one take a look at Buskett he/she can realize and appreciate what hunters did for centuries, since it was all planted by hunters in the Knights era.

it is quite normal that after such vandalism every organization issue a statement to condemn the non-sense thing. will it be wiser if all federations, groups and organizations act with responsibility to avoid such shameful act to happen?

There you are, vile acts against trees and other are done across the board, not just to Foresta 2000! Only the BLM manage the media leverage!
Extensive voluntary work, including tree planting, is carried out by the mentioned hunters group with media coverage being almost non-existent. More so the vandalism against many of their efforts fails to get the slightest mention!
Not only BLM does not want any dealing with hunters but the media’s bias gives too much political clout to the same BLM! And then given the chance, the media is ever so prompt to belittle hunters!
Vandalism is to be condemned where ever it is done. To even consider such deeds, perpetrators must be of a sick mind!

Let it be known that BLM is the only European ornithological organisation (a.k.a. hatred campaign against hunters and trappers and hunting/trapping) that has repeatedly failed to work in collaboration with the hunters' representatives. Elsewhere in Europe the two sides work in partnership (suffice to mention FACE and Birdlife International). Rather than picking on each other they should learn from their European counterparts and work towards common goals such as habitat conservation, which at the end of the day benefits both sides of the coin. BLM working with FKNK/GhSU is seen as taboo and it shouldn't be so. Birdlife Malta seriously needs to reconsider its agenda and be more inclusive. This is not a matter of "if you can't beat them join them" but "let's join forces for the benefit of all", more so when both are against illegal activities.

"These trees were vandalized a number of times, but, unfortunately, these vandal acts have not been put under the media spotlight." BUT BLM have a different agenda! After the blow they received when proved wrong, i.e. that Spring Hunting is NOT ILLEGAL after all, I have long ago predicted that they will do anything to stop the Spring Hunting Season. After all, as their friend David Conlin has written:
"The EU Commission and the European Parliament must be lobbied time and again and encouraged to take positive steps to officially observe, record and act on the excesses by Maltese hunters and the apathy inaction or plain ineffectiveness of the Maltese authorities. We must not relent in our activity until Malta is a bird hunting-free sone."
FOOD FOR THOUGHT!!!

It is definitely clear that Birdlife Malta wants to take an advantage from this vandal act to shed bad light on hunters. Instead of pointing fingers everyone should look around and appreciate the trees that were planted by hunters and trappers for centuries.

BLM are so arrogant!
“We regret to state that the reply from BirdLife was that all societies in Mellieħa were welcome, except the hunters’ organisation,”
If it's for the good join forces!! Only immature people do these type of statements.

Your comment is a little bit stupid .... did you ever see anyone calling his enemy home to help him decorating it? The reserve should be free of hunters, so how can you ever invite the same hunters to help you? It's laughable!!! Did you ever hear Muscat calling on Gonzi to go to the headquarters to help him managing his party (or vice versa). Ehat the hunters wanted is just that!!! Trojan horse?

Why are you comparing two NGOs with two political parties? It's not the same.
Why are you calling the FKNK enemies of BLM? They both agree on this issue, so why can't they work together? There's not harm, in fact, I hope their relationship will get better. They're not enemies, they just have different aims... but they do agree on this one, so they should definately work together for the sake of their relationship and the Foresta 2000.
We're not talking about FKNK helping with the management of BLM... it's totally different!
This will only worsten their relationship. And, to conlude, I'm not a hunter... but BLM are being arrogant.
