Underpass to link Dec 13 Rd with 'Menqa'

The project to link December 13 Road with the Menqa area in Marsa will include an underpass and an overlying road to take traffic to and from Valletta.

Transport Minister Austin Gatt said a new road from the Menqa to Valletta Waterfront would be built first, while the tunnel for the underpass would follow.

Transport Malta is still awaiting permits from the Planning Authority.

I agree; The Addolorata junction should be the top priority.

Have you kept count of the various PROJECTS that the Hon. Minister has been "constantly' announcing in the last 9 MONTHS ?

His ministry is so pregnant with ideas !

I agree with you about the technical difficulties. Doesn't mean it cannot be done. the british have been building tunnels under rivers since 1843 I bet we can manage to do one today. The advantage of doing it now is that it will be key infrastructure ready before the Marsa regeneration starts in earnest. That area has been neglected for far too long.

Hope the businesses and residents in the area will not be affected too much as this looks likely to be a big upheaval. More importantly I hope they have contingency plans for any archaeologically significant finds along the way.

I'm not sure I'd feel comfortable using a Malta-made tunnel under water. With leaking tunnels, poor road surfaces (even with new and freshly repaired roads), various flooding several times each winter, failing boilers repeatedly paralysing the country, websites that take days to bring back on-line, cable breakages killing communications for hours on end, miscellaneaous cranes and building machinery toppling over, and minor road incidents bringing half the island to a gridlock, Maltese workmanship does not quite inspire confidence.

I don't believe the degree of sycophancy shown by some people!
