The Mtarfa clock tower, built in 1895 by the British military forces, was transferred to Mtarfa local council by the government today.
Parliamentary Secretary Jason Azzopardi said the devolution of such properties enabled local councils to better maintain them and use them in the interest of their localities.
Mtarfa local council intends to fully restore the clock tower and open it to visitors.
Parliamentary Secretary Chris Said noted that the hand-over was being made on Mtarfa Day.
He praised local councils for promoting the culture and history of their localities, and said that 54 councils had joined a scheme which helps the councils organise cultural activities.
