Meetings to reduce 'festa' pique making progress - President

President George Abela said today that meetings he has been having with feast organisers and band clubs had yielded significant progress.
Dr Abela made his comments during a reception in Floriana for the feast of St Publius, which marks the opening of the festa season.
Last year, at the same venue President George Abela said that he would not be going to any village feasts where there was pique and division.
He also said he would convene meetings with band club associations, fireworks enthusiasts, the police and the College of Parish Priests to discuss how the feasts could be improved in that there would be a greater civic sense, unity and enjoyment.
He met the Archbishop and the College of Parish Priests to discuss feasts in May.
Dr Abela did not comment further on the progress made in his talks but said the feast of St Publius brought to his mind the Maltese characteristic of hospitality – shown by the way they had received St Paul. The Pope last week had also praised the Maltese for their extraordinary hospitality, Dr Abela observed.

Unfortunately Raymond Cachia does not seem to know things well. At least he could have tried not to generalize in order to seem more credible. Unfortunately people like you only enjoy themselves, throwing mud to others. You never seem to accept the fact that there people who work hard for a whole year round in order to celebrate the village feast decently as much as possible. Unfortunately, as happens as well in other manifestations such as football matches etc., there are a few stupids who spoil the whole thing. We need to address these people and try to educate them in every possible manner we can. However I will never say that we should ban football because in a particular match there was a brawl or because people were insulting each other. The police have to ensure that these things do not happen and wherever they occur, the necessary actions should me taken immediately.

Not enough is being done to stop these pagan festivities. As long as Sunday morning/afternoon band marches (marc tal-brijju) continue whatever the President is doing is all in vain. What happened to the Curia recomndations? I hope that these will come into effect early.

Thanks for the president for the work he is doing. Pique and division is whats keeping feasts from reaching there true meaning.
@Raymond Cachia - Spiritually feasts are less religious than they should be. But economically feasts are a big tourist attraction and also a lot of money gets spent. Band club associations also contribute to many activities during the year like firework competitions, activities during easter etc etc. But who needs tourists and these kind of activities lets just ban them.

Festas - this is what passes for spirituality in these islands!
Ban these pagan exhibitions of excess and bad taste.

Well Done and Thank You to our President! How lucky all the Maltese are to have such an imaginative, hard-working and sincere President! What a charismatic leader of our nation he is!
No wonder everybody loves and respects him so much!
