Charles Camenzuli, the president of the Għaqda Ġurnalisti Sports, will run for secretary general of the UEPS, the European Union for sports journalists, at the April 28 election, to be held in Antalya, Turkey.
The other candidates for the post are current secretary general Rik Lamoral, of Belgium, and England's Philip Barker.
In a statement, Camenzuli said his candidacy is supported by a good number of the UEPS member countries, 42 in all.
UEPS is the most influential continental section within the AIPS, the international organisation for sports journalists that caters for 214 member associations.
Camenzuli is the longest-serving official within AIPS after being elected for the first time in 1989. He has occupied the post of AIPS secretary general since 1997.
Camenzuli is also the director of media of the Maltese Olympic Committee (MOC), executive member of the Institute of Maltese Journalists and was recently appointed administrative secretary of the Fondazzjoni Tumas Fenech għall-Edukazzjoni fil-Ġurnaliżmu.
