A faithful servant to the service of the Lord.

Since a very young age, I always bear in mind an exceptional ever active priest in my home town.

Dun Philip, as he was well known, was never at ease. For many years he was ecclesiastical assistant to the youth Catholic Action, with a particular dedication to those young people who sought his help and advice.

His humble service to the sick was exceptional. As vice parish priest for quite a number of years, besides his daily Mass, he delivered the Holy Eucharist to sick people every day in their homes. Of particular mention was his bed-side visits to inpatients at the various hospitals, particularly on Sundays, without fail.

For quite a long time, as rector of the Sacred Heart chapel in Żebbuġ he introduced the day-long adoration of the Holy Eucharist, spending long hours waiting in the chapel to give spiritual comfort to those who sought his Christian assistance.

Dun Philip's approach and dedicated service, in particular encouragement in God's trust, were his characteristic values.

Besides, no one can ever forget his sterling service to the decoration and restoration of the parish church. Sometimes, solely on his own personal initiative, he would spend days on end cleaning and brushing the whole elaborated ceiling of the aisles and naves of our parish church.

His special dedication, patience and love to his parents, brothers and sisters, particularly to Gemma and Mary, were an exemplary deed of a united family.

Dun Philip gave so much and lived up to his profound religious vocation. With his exemplary life, with a touch of humour, he gave a service to many.

He is now in the hands of the Lord who judges the person by his deeds, so much so that even a single glass of water one gives to one's neighbour with love and in the name of God will be rewarded.

May he rest in peace.
