Ramla Bay in Gozo is in a disastrous state, the Xaghra council said expressing its concern.
In a statement it said it had responsibility for this bay and it has been putting pressure on the authorities to remove the stones which are covering the sand for several months.
The bay was soon to start filling up with people and the stones posed a danger.
But for the council to remove them, it needed the permission of the Malta Environment and Planning Authority and the aid of the Gozo Ministry.
“We are disillusioned that although there is agreement that these stones must be removed, Mepa is still dragging its feet and the necessary approval has not been given yet.”
The council called on Mepa and the ministry to heed their appeal for the benefit of residents and visitors.
“Our residents definitely merit better than this situation,” it said.
