Some 15,000 cranes stop off every Spring in Sweden while on their long migration north.

The birds started to land at a lake near Skövde in the south in the 1950s to feed on potatoes cultivated for the spirit aquavit. The fields disappeared two decades later when the alcohol distilleries closed down but bird association have continued the tradition, laying down 140 tonnes of potatoes and cereals during two weeks every year.
