Russia was by far the biggest source for adoptions by Maltese couples last year.

Information given in Parliament today shows that 23 children were adopted from Russia, compared to five from Ethiopia and Malta itself, three from Pakistan and one each from Albania, Cambodia and the Philippines.

In 2008 there were 26 adoptions from Russia, nine from Ethiopia, three from Pakistan, two each from Bulgaria and Cambodia and one from Albania.
