Maltese who need help because they have been stranded abroad as a result of the disruption in travel services should contact Maltese embassies for assistance. Information on how the embassies can be contacted is at www.foreign.gov.mt .

The Foreign Ministry and the Tourism Parliamentary Secretary said in a joint statement that many Maltese who lost their flight had been assisted in Portugal, The Netherlands, Russia, Italy, Luxembourg, France, Austria, Belgium and the UK.

Coaches were organised from the UK and Belgium embassies to the airport of Rome and Marseille from where the Maltese could get a flight home. 75 people were assisted in Belgium and 150 in the UK.

Air Malta today operated five additional flights to Toulouse, Marseille (two), Zurch and Rome.

A total of 61 flights were cancelled today with 38 operating as scheduled.
