Is FlyPass membership another gimmick?
A month has elapsed since I first wrote to Air Malta's Customer Care enquiring why Air Malta choose to penalise their FlyPass members for transferring some of their KMiles to family members by capping the transferable amount up to 20,000 KMiles against a charge of €151 per transaction.
To date, despite subsequent e-mail communications, the position has remained unchanged.
I cannot understand why a FlyPass member cannot freely transfer whatever amount of KMiles s/he wishes to anyone and, indeed, why Air Malta must charge their FlyPass members for such a transaction. Indeed, this is tantamount to introducing a charge for transferring ones savings to somebody else's account.
Why shouldn't a FlyPass member be allowed to freely dispose of any amount of KMiles to anyone? What difference does it make to Air Malta if KMiles are held by Peter and Paul instead of by Adam and Eve? Is this the correct way of treating customers for being loyal to the national airline? What is the use of accumulating KMiles if one cannot pass on the benefits to other potential Air Malta customers?
There are lots of unanswered questions that need to be addressed immediately.
Unless the above constraints/policies are rectified and reversed, I can only conclude that Air Malta's FlyPass membership is just another gimmick.

I totally agree with these comments.Flypass is a total gimmick.I do not even bother to try and use the points anymore and when i can I am sorry to say, do not use airmalta. My daughter who is 14 yrs old goes to 2 competions abroad every year and never has airmalta helped us,and we have asked many, many times and is cheaper to book as indivisuals then as a group booking!!!Also if my daughter is 14 yrs ,why I am not allowed to present the flypass card of her father when purchasing ticket????As if a 14yr old can pay ! @ johnnie bowdler i too dont know whats so special about air malta today, and i fly at least once a year with them, everyone says support the local market but loyalty does not stretch that far once they have outpriced themselves, i remember the first time way back the crew could not do enough for you, frequently asking if you were comfortable, seeking out children and giving the small goody bag with play things, pillow and blanket if needed or requested, i dont mind paying for a drink but the prices have rocketed, unless you press the call button you dont see them walk down the aisle seeing if they could be of help,or a freindly smile, at the end of the day they load you on take you there and drop you off, they have become no frills but have maintained the high cost no wonder we are going for ryan air they also load you on take you there and drop you off and on time and a smooth flight but a heck of a lot cheaper, as for food i would rather take a sarnie and have my meal money deducted

My advice to everybody travelling by air in an easterly direction is to use Emirates - monopoly of routes aside. What is this fascination with Air Malta? The inflight service is non-existant, and you have to pay for your alky drinks over and above a lousy can of ale or small bottle of mass-produced wine. As for the food onboard - well? You don't know what meat you're eating unless it comes in the shape of a recognisable part of a chicken. And what about the starchy faces of some of the cabin crew? My congratulations and fondest memories of the Air Malta of old, with the famous Boeing 720B's, the free booze and the smiling crews. And some very fit and sexy trolley-dollies (on occasion, subject to demand). Ignore this if your'e PC (not that I care an iota), but those who remember those days please write in! Come on, Air Malta - lets get with the programme, and take a trip down memory lane.
