Somali in trouble for doing friend a favour
A 24-year-old Somali immigrant was this morning conditionally discharged for a year after pleading guilty to forgery.
Abdallah Ali Mohammed signed his name on behalf of his friend who was in hospital.
The court heard that in order for immigrants to receive their financial allowance, they have to sign in three times a week. Since his friend could not sign in because he was in hospital, he asked Mr Mohammed to sign for him.
Mr Mohammed signed his own name where his friend’s name had to be signed.

The system should ensure that no one is claiming an allowance for immigrants who have already left the island. Identity cards should be compulsory and should be checked by social services staff to stop any abuses. That goes for any Maltese claiming any benefits too.
