I have been assessing the situation ever since the pavement in St Augustine Street, Rabat, adjacent to a particular coffee shop, was widened substantially.
I cannot understand how the Rabat local council, or whoever is responsible, issued the permit (if any) to widen the pavement. St Augustine Street is not a one way road and, therefore, cars are driving up and down every other minute! I witnessed a number of almost head-on collisions due to this pavement, which is too wide. As a result of its width, any driver would have to turn round the corner when coming from Saqqajja by driving in the middle of the road because the pavement is obstructing the view, not allowing the driver to see who might be coming down the hill. Besides, a motor bike or a car is parked on this pavement every day.
The pavement should be restored to its original state in order to avoid any fatal accidents, especially in the case of those using the pedestrian crossing right by this pavement.
Please take action before it is too late.
