The Malta Information Technology Agency is organising an e-skills fair as part of an extensive awareness campaign coordinated by the European Commission's DG Enterprise and Industry.

The formation of human capital within information and communications technologies is shaping a dynamic niche that is globally increasing in relevance and is leading to career opportunities. Consequently this instigates an increasing demand for knowledge, skills and competences among ICT practitioners to meet global standards at European and national levels.

Nationally there has been a growing pool of initiatives and policies that are encouraging the acquisition of e-skills at any level of education while consolidating the educational infrastructure and human resources. Such an opportunity enables Maltese to not only possess quality ICT skills but have sufficient training and qualifications that will enable them to acquire better, "smarter" jobs, MITA said.

The e-skills fair is one of the activities organised to ensure that Maltese citizens are aware of the opportunities available within the ICT industry.

The fair is aimed at students who are about to leave compulsory education, young professionals, and SMEs who wish to advance their skills or those wishing to re-skill and redirect their careers to take advantage of identified skills shortages within the industry.

This event is also meant to empower people and prevent exclusion, and ensure life-long learning and participation in the digital world. Besides focusing on e-skills availability, the event is an opportunity to bring together an authoritative spectrum of representatives from industry, education and the government, thus allowing participants to acquire a global perspective of the area.

The event will be held at the ballroom of the Excelsior Grand Hotel in Valletta between today and Saturday. Today and tomorrow it will be open between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. On Saturday, it will be open between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Ample parking is available within the hotel premises and surrounding areas. Further information is available at http://eskills-week.ec.europa.eu and www.mita.gov.mt/eskills.
