@ Joe Zammit. You forgot one very important accolade - Benedict is infallible.
@ C.Caruana. Enjoy?! You make this sound like some kind of Carnival. On second thoughts.......!!
I don't care what they do to the route. God, or the volcano, willing - much the same thing, acts of god and all that - I should be landing in Malta next week. As long as the monument just outside the airport is 'unveiled' (as in 'don't forget to take the drape away, laundered and folded, ready for the next V.I.P. visit'), I really don't care about the state of the roads. Luqa Council, can we please have some bells and fairy lights instead of the drapery. Please!!

I'm from Malta, but would love to be in the UK when the pontiff comes to visit you.
Good luck Mr.Dawkins!

This is the time for all of us Maltese to unite irrespective of our beliefs etc. We have always come out with flying colours during such big events as we are a very capable nation. During this Malta will be in the spotlight in many parts of the world. Leaving religion aside, as for many this is the most important aspect fo the Pope's visit, Malta will get a lot of exposure with all these journalists and TV crews around. So let us make the best of it, for our own sake.

A visit such as this is a blessing, not just a holy blessing, one might not agree with the pope the church or the goverment, but come on guys let's admit it that we have the chance and thanks God the authorities are takeing ito show off our Beutifull Malta to the world.

However you cut it, the pope's visit is a positive occurrence. Good job for the beautification of the island, so, please stop your whining, why don't you?

Hafna xeni u kummiedji ghal xejn. As if he is going to change something in this country with his holiday here.
What I mean by 'change something' is not related to government, taxes etc. but religion. People will still keep going to church every sunday ghax drajna, nibqghu nghiru ghal xulxin, niggudikaw, niddiskriminaw u elf haga ohra. Dak hu religjon, u jekk tieqaf tahseb ara kemm gwerer graw u ghedt jigru minhabba religjon.
U ahjar nieqaf hawn ghax nibqa sejjer...

You know Mr Alan Caruana Carabez on second thoughts I tend to agree with you, and perhaps we should also not forget that the north part of the island is that much closer to Rome thereby the breeze coming south does its work's and it cleanses things away on a more frequent basis so the nearby present blessing may not be a primary issue. I only wish I could live in sliema or floriana or valletta.

Can someone tell me how long the Pope's sermon infront of St.Paul's church in Rabat, is going to take?...because from the program above the whole show will take less than 15min (being generous)....then I ask all the money spent to build that huge stage and stands, etc, etc and all the rest, for just 15min? Cool!!
Alan Caruana
Apr 16th 2010, 12:27
@ C Galea , There are less sinners in the north part of the island so blessing the place is less important than lets sliema , valletta , floriana (lots of sinners there ) =)

Usually we say that ‘lay a red carpet for the Pope’ .. but in our beloved Malta we can say
‘Lay a tarmac carpet for the Pope’

Can we stop for once arguing and enjoy the fact that His Highness is coming to Malta. We should enjoy every sec of it and after all we should be thankful for the roads that have been resurfaced, he should come here often and have different routes! fl-ahhar mil-ahhar ha ngawdu ahna ukoll!!

WELL DONE for the issue of this information .
Many people in the street and GEMGEMS down under and up over in these comments do not have the data related to the Time .
Useless having the street and not the time.
Now all those gemgem guys and gals , You have the: Punto Di Partenza and the Time. All you have to do is some simple math if you are able to.
If you want to go it's up to you , if you want to stay home please yourself. YOU ARE FREE .
As for the tarmac roads - The Pope will not be taking them with him. The Govt will not peel off the surface and return it as it was, meaning that thanks to such visits we always end up enjoying the long term benefits of better landscaping. I wish we had more of these from time to time .They keep the GOVT on the alert .
Police and AFM will be doing the most work during these 24 hours not to mention the long hours spent rehearsing all the routes .
We should be proud of all Police , AFM and emergency ambulance personnel.

The holy Pope will bless everyone on his way from one place to another and his blessing will not be in vain. He is the Vicar of Christ. He is the Head of the Church here on earth. Blessed are those who love the Pope, chosen by Christ himself, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.
Christ himself told the Apostles and their successors, the bishops: "Whoever persecutes you will be persecuting me". This means as well: "Whoever loves the Pope loves me".

Something to do with the anniversary of St Paul's visit to Malta and all that .......
.........or have some of us forgotten?

There was no need for the Pope to pass through all those roads and villages in Gozo. He should have spent more time touring in Malta!!

@ a. sciberras
The British were right in calling us Maltese gemgem.
Before 1987 we also used to pay taxes and the highest was 65% not like today at 35% and we never had our roads surfaced with tarmac. You know from were new roads used to pass in those days and these roads used to be as winding as the snakes in the Snakes and Ladders game.
Do you remember the dangerous curves of the B'Kara Bypass close to HSBC, do you remember the dangerous curves along all the Marsascala Bypass. These deadly sins in road building wer seen to in these last few years. Did you complain back than? Of course that you not.!!!!!!!

A. Vassallo We are paying a lot more taxes now and not making ends meet because your GONEZI is taxing us to the hilt to squander all the taxes he collects from us.

In Luqa, they have re-surfaced the last part of the road leaving the airport(left hand side) . Since on the way back, the Pope is not passing again from here, the other side of this road was not re -surfaced. But to add insult to injury, the re painted the lines on this side, which needless to say is full od bumps and pot holes. At least when he is looking out from the car he will see the new brilliant white lines!!!!!! ( But not feel the bumps!!!)
