It seems that the chamber of Small and Medium Enterprises - GRTU has gone all out in defence of its vice president, Mario Debono, who faces charges of illegally importing medicine.

When one reads the statement issued by the GRTU, one would be forgiven for assuming that the GRTU is also acting as Mr Debono's defence lawyer, rather than sitting quietly while justice takes its course.

What the GRTU seems to have forgotten is that Mr Debono had already landed in court, accused of sending hate mail to Labour Leader Joseph Muscat in 2007 when the latter was still an

MEP, and yet, he managed to hold on to his post within the GRTU without any particular mishaps.

What really seems to matter to GRTU director general Vince Farrugia, as put in his own words, is that Mr Debono has been steadfastly loyal towards the GRTU.

Slowly, but surely, the GRTU is losing all its credibility.
