As a motorcyclist myself and knowing Jesmond for ages, I always knew Jes as a careful rider, and never taking unnecessary risks, I am not to blame the truck driver either as I experienced incidents like this myself but luckily survived the ordeal, The blame is of the idiot who has come out of the side street comin from the valley. Now he is calmly proceeding with his life, while my fellow friend is gone forever, destroying a very happy family, My deepest condolences go to his family and especially his wife who is a very old and good friend of mine !
Rest in peace bro!

For all those who are trying to justify this accident by saying that trucks are not allowed out on Sundays and/or holidays, I think they talking non sense. Do you think that who even owns a truck pays half the license of the other commercial vehicles which can be also used as a pleasure car?? They pay the same license so they are allowed to go out whenever they want, until the ADT will maybe arrange this non sense license system. And who are we to tell others if they can work on Sundays??
And most important its true that you find these trucks in front of you driving at 30kmph, but mind you i find more idiots driving there Sunday car on the weekend especially when its a sunny day, driving with 30kmph on the FAST lane than these trucks on a Sunday afternoon. And who ever thinks that i'm exagerating go take a drive on the coast and you will see that you will surely find some of these Sundays drivers.
The last thing, I never overtake another car i'f im not 100% sure that no cars are coming from the opposite direction!!

Jemond may you rest in peace. I know that you have joined your mother in heaven and both of you are looking upon us. We miss you dearly.
To the general public;
You should not assume and come to conclusions. You should not point fingers and blame people. What the family needs is support and respect.
It’s good to offer condolences to the bereaving family, but do not judge.
I thank all those who sent their consonance and shown their support to the family and friends
Jesmond we miss you

Rest assured that I'm not one of them, though I have become more mindful of my driving habits over the years.

Condolences to the family......I for one am really careful on the roads when I see motorcyclists around, and also enjoy when I see a group parading....however, please note that occassionally I do see motorcyclists (on their own) that sway and swerve at such high speed that I get goose pimples with fear. Resulting accidents would be fatal in these instances and it would be unfair both on any car drivers and also on other fellows who drive their motorcyle carefully to be labled in such cases. For God's sake, please take care.

What a sad, tragic, and perhaps avoidable loss. Heartfelt condolences to the family.
I would like to join the voice of J Cauchi - what was this truck doing out on a Sunday? We've come to a situation when you come across trucks, bulldozers and all sorts of slow moving heavy vehicles in weekends and public holidays. Though car drivers and motorcyclists are expected to drive with caution, these heavy vehicles often pose a particular threat as many a times one does not expect to come across one on a holiday. A couple of weeks ago I came across one at Tal-Barrani, late in the evening on a non-working day, its lights were not on and driving at 30kph on the outer lane.
What about the parking of commercial vehicles in perilous spots along the roads? That's another hazard.
Please stop blaming motorcyclists. Sometimes they risk a bit - but who of us drives 40-60kph all the time? Trucks are heavy to manoever and while a car could have taken a second to overtake or make a turn, a truck takes much longer. He could also have had poor visibility that hindered his seeing the biker, poor soul.

From what I gathered from the news, the motorcyclist had to swerve to the other side of the road to avoid a vehicle that shot out of a side street. If this is true, has the perpetrator been caught. The lorry has no fault at all as it was on the proper lane.
As for drivers respecting motorcyclists, it works both ways as many a time you see motorcyclists swerving between larger vehicles, being cars, buses or lorries and overspeeding just like any other vehicle. I'm not insinuating that the victim was doing the same here.
Condolences to all his family and friends and may the Lord grant him eternal rest.
@ ONE AND ALL, PLEASE ABIDE BY THE RULES ON THE ROAD AND RESPECT OTHERS IN ORDER TO DECREASE THE CHANCES OF ACCIDENTS WHICH UNFORTUNATELY MIGHT BE FATAL AT TIMES.

It´s no good to anyone when accidents happen on the roads especially when they are fatal. But the comments readers sent in are concerning if it´s a car or a truck, trees or what have you. This is superficial even though accidents can be made less tragic due to physical hinders etc to avoid or lessen the impact . These studies show that impacts of motoring accidents can be dampened but not avoid. The bottom line of these studies and trails( that are the results of several years especially in Sweden) show that it all boils down to the mentallity and behaviour of the driving person. Good motoring education and abiding to the law such as keeping the speed limits and adhering to the stop signs and not taking chances when overtaking is a major KEY FACTOR.

first of all my deepest condolences to the family,
also heartfelt symphathy to the truck driver,
neither rider or truck driver were to blame in this tragety, both were in there correct lanes untill unforseen circumstances caused rider to swerve, both in the wrong place at the wrong time unfortunately, bless all concerned in both familys

What have trucks out on a Sunday got to do with it? The poor victim happened to collide with a truck when he could have easily hit another car, motorcycle, tree, wall, barrier or whatever. motorcycles are very fragile contraptions and when in an accident it's not a matter of if you get hurt but how much you get hurt. My condolences go to his family and friends.

Are trucks and heavy vehicles allowed on our roads on Sundays?
If these vehicles are not allowed, then perhaps this accident could have been avoided and a young life saved; but alas!
Rest in Peace with the Lord, my friend.

I know of only Germany that has or used to have rules regarding trucks and other heavy vehicles on the road on a Sunday and I believe that ran from 1200hrs on a Saturday until 2359hrs on the Sunday.

Please don't jump into conclusions. This stretch of road is very dangerous as cars/vans etc gets out from the road leading to the valley without even noticing there is a STOP roadmarking. The truck was on his side. And the last thing there is nothing written on the insurance policy or road licence that trucks cannot be driven on Sundays. They pay their road licence triple what you pay for your car!!!!

What sort of comment is this? Mela accidents happen only on Sunday?? And if we ban trucks from driving on Sunday does this mean that we won't have any more accidents??
