The prospects of a daily flight operated by Kuwait Air are looking good following talks between the Prime Minister and his counterpart in Kuwait yesterday.
The lack of direct flights from the Gulf region has been cited as an obstacle for companies to do business with Malta and the delegation headed by Lawrence Gonzi has been focusing on tackling the matter.
The Kuwaiti government is particularly warm to Malta's proposal mostly because of the regard in which they still hold President Emeritus Guido de Marco, who was president of the United Nations General Assembly at the time of the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait.
Dr Gonzi, who is on a tour of Gulf states, also discussed cooperation in a number of areas including trade and investment.
Agreements on political cooperation in international fora and on health were signed by Kuwaiti ministers and Foreign Affairs Minister Tonio Borg.
Dr Gonzi met Kuwaiti investors who have links with Malta, particularly through FIMBank and the Corinthia Group.
