Opposition Leader Joseph Muscat, who is currently in China, has visited Tianjin where he had talks with officials in the Tianjin Economic Development Area, the fastest growing development area in China.

He also visited the Airbus aircraft assembly plant.

Dr Muscat said Malta could be the Mediterranean partner to the Tianjin economic zone.

The Labour Party said that Dr Muscat in his meetings discussed cooperation possibilities in areas such as energy, financial services, tourism and education.

Dr Muscat had also signed an agreement with the central Chinese authorities providing for ongoing exchange of information on economic, industrial, political and social developments.
