Panda print
Two billboards in Marsa advertising the Pope's visit to Malta got the unlikely addition of two stencilled images of what looks like a panda. It is not clear why the "artist" in question juxtaposed the bears with the Pope. The organising committee was alerted yesterday morning and it plans to erase the images.

I don't know whether the accusations are true but I think that the church has to be first to tell the truth in any case. I also think that priests and clergy members should be processed like every other human being. Hope that the truth emerges soon.

Now let’s be honest, you can’t go preaching about premarital sex and how wrong it is and be the head of the catholic church and in the same time make such big fouls. I am a young catholic person, and all I hear about us is accusations that our generation is bringing this world to an end apart from the other "priedki" on sex from the same church. Let me remind you that this pope was all out against free contraceptive giving in the HIV ridden countries, because that is not the way love is supposed to be made by the rulebook. I’m sorry but as much as I hate to hear these things about the church by principle, I can’t help but think that the church brought it on itself. Most probably the people to do it were still young, and this is because teenage people don’t get shut easily, not like children or old people, if something is as contradicting as this they rebel. For those that don't know, last weekend the archbishop was in paceville trying to bring teenagers to the papal mass, so the local church is quite concerned. Message received.

Pedobear is a cartoon character based on a real and wonderful animal. Pleeease stop using him as a metaphor for paedophilia. Aren't our animals suffering enough at the hands of the most dangerous predator that has ever walked on this planet i.e mankind. The demolition of their homes to build monstrosities without a thought for them or their young is just one of the sins we commit against them because christianity has taught us we are sooo superior. All "wild" animals have as much right to live in dignity on this planet as the human animal. Evolution respects them as much as us. I am proud to say I've been a lapsed catholic for many years, not since paedophilia was uncovered but since I began to question the wealth of the vatican.

if mr.ratzinger has so much followers, why were these billboards erected in the first place? not that they don't have the right to do so, but don't they diminish the respect of any state leader? its not like you're advertising some diet soft drink or some low calories cereal!

@ perpetrator/s
Your actions have managed to get me interested in the Papal visit. Due to various commitments I was not going to participate, but now, I, together with my whole family are going to participate in one of the activities related to the Papal visit to Malta. My kids are got into it, and are also going to the Saturday's welcome at Pjazza San Gorg.
Prosit !!! Keep up the good work.

How often we forget......Christ told us : do what they (the priests) say but vdon't do what bthey fdo....because they also are human, and as such sinners.....we forget that Judas was an ap+ostle and betrrayed Christ his Master. I think these people look for an excuse to hide their lack of reliogion.....

Didn't quite get your point. I didn't approve of what these people have done. I simple pointed out what the bears meant, as I happened to be the first person to post a comment here, and if you read the article again, you notice that until then, and I quote: ''It is not clear why the "artist" in question juxtaposed the bears with the Pope''
yes, I am baptized as a Roman Catholic, and practise the Roman Catholic religion. It does not mean that I will not criticize the catholic church. Nor it means that I approve what the folks have done. As a matter of fact, I do agree 100% with you, that these people maybe only cowards and vandals, as I only heard of a very few, or rather relatively few people officially complaining about cases of peadophilia by church clerics in Malta.

To quote wikipedia on the subject:
"The cartoon character "Pedobear" is a renamed version of the 2chan ASCII art character "kuma". In his American incarnation, he is an anthropomorphic bear child predator that is often used within the community to mock contributors showing a sexual interest in under-age girls.[42] Pedobear is one of the most popular memes on non-English imageboards, and is gaining recognition across Europe. Although the meme is apparently unknown in Poland,[43] it has been used as a symbol of pedophilia by Maltese graffiti vandals.[44]"

@ c.cachia....with all due respect this is just a coward act of persons who don't have the courage to speak openly but hide themselves in vandal acts during the night...for sure the Church needs no messages from this kind of people, and just to make you remember....I assume you are baptized as Catholic and therfore you or who baptized you, you are accusing him of being a paedophile....for the Catholic Church is not the clergy but all the people of God, who are baptized in the Church.
I'm sorry for those people who still live in an anarchy style mentality

What Christian Cachia is implying is that ACTION should be taken on those who did destroy the lives of those innocent children around the world... and NOT defend them.
By apologies and words nothing is being done. Those who did those monstrosities and perversions are still roaming around the world, maybe trying to find a loophole in the legal system. Ironically after 60 years Nazi criminals (if any left) are still being hunted for their participation in the Holocaust... however the ones who destroyed mentally innocent children, they are being defended. Why is this?
I am Catholic and proud of it.However I am sorry to say this (as much as it hurts writing it down)... heads MUST roll. Whoever is/are responsible must be brought to justice for his or their disgusting actions. Sorry my friends WRONG is WRONG and RIGHT is RIGHT. No matter who did it. Its not a small issue this one.... to err is human.... to do this abuse the individual must be a/are monster/s!
I like the majority am expecting his Holiness who represents our Lord to do justice with those responsible in all countries of the world.

It's suddenly 'cowardly' to paint protest pictures, but apparently it is not cowardly for the Church to hide behind its authority to protect itself from allegations of serial child abuse. You really need to question your morality.

Wow, just when I thought things couldn't get any worse, you somehow put spray painting a pedobear on a billboard on the same level as child rape.
I hope your post was sarcasm.

@sandro agius:
what exactly do you mean by "living in an anarchy style mentality"?
is it living and hounding on young innocent children by sexualy abusing them?
or is it living to protect these perverted animals and in the same time allowing them to prey on more young victims?

Thanks to the younger generation, a pedobear and shotacat are references to paedophiles, but someone got it wrong, or maybe not. Shotacat likes young boys, as pedobear likes young girls. See also http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=shotacat . Since these symbols are still new, I would think some silly teenagers are responsible.

Pedobear is an umbrella symbol for pedophilia in general. If 'ShotaCat' would be a symbol for only liking young boys, then a "loli-something' would be for only liking young girls, as 'Shotacon' is depictions of young boys and 'Lolicon' is depictions of young girls.
The reason Pedobear is associated mainly with young girls is due to 4Chan (The 'main' birthplace of the Pedobear) being a majority male weighted community.

That is a significant figure, and a message to the Catholic Church. That bear is called Peodobear, a symbol for paedophiles.
