The Malta Resources Authority has denied claims by Labour whip Joe Mizzi that it had acted beyond powers which were granted to it by law.
In a judicial reply to an application filed by Mr Mizzi last month, the MRA said it fulfilled its obligations according to law and as a result there was no need for Mr Mizzi to file the judicial application.
Mr Mizzi, who is also the PL's spokesman on resources, had accused the authority of not upholding the interests of the consumers in the latest utility rates hike.
He accused it of acting beyond its powers when it approved the utility tariffs issued by Enemalta.
The MRA said this morning that it did not have to reply to Mr Mizzi’s application because there was other action he could have taken according to law.
It said it had investigated the complaints made over the tariffs and decided on the issue even though it was not legally obliged to do so.
