Specialised dementia care unit

A specialised dementia care unit was inaugurated yesterday by the Care Malta Group. The Marigold Unit, located at Villa Messina home for the elderly in Rabat, is a specialised unit hosting 30 elderly residents who suffer from the condition.

About 4,500 people suffer from dementia in Malta and medical experts are predicting the number will increase in the coming years.

Natalie Briffa Farrugia, Care Malta CEO, said: " Specialised care can help ensure a better and more secure quality of life for elderly citizens with dementia. Care Malta is investing in its level of expertise and in the facilities it provides for those who are living with this condition."

Care Malta runs Casa Arkati, Villa Messina, the Żejtun Home, the Cospicua Home, the Mellieħa Home and Prince of Wales Apartments in Sliema. In June, it will open Roseville, a €5 million new home for the elderly in St Anthony Street, Attard.
