Malta International Airport has reported a 12.3 per cent increase in passenger movements in March compared to the same month last year. MIA said the March growth meant an average increase of 8.9 per cent for the first three months of 2010.

The total passenger movements on scheduled and non-scheduled flights in March amounted to 206,543, an increase of 22,559 passengers when compared to the corresponding month in 2009.

Both aircraft movements and cargo and mail figures registered increases of 8.1 per cent and 22.7 per cent respectively. Passenger traffic for the main markets of UK, Italy, Germany, Spain and France increased by 5.9 per cent, 30.5 per cent, nine per cent, 116.2 per cent and 30 per cent respectively.

The busiest day last month was March 30 with 11,422 passengers and 97 aircraft movements. The five top airport destinations in March were London Gatwick, Rome Fiumicino, London Heathrow, Frankfurt and Manchester.
