April 23, New Conflict of Laws Rules for Contractual Obligations in Europe: Trends and Perspectives, The Hague

The topics during this one-day seminar are focused on the Regulation (EC) No 593/2008 of the European Parliament and of the Council of June 17, 2008 on the law applicable to contractual obligations (Rome I) which applies to contracts concluded on or after December 17, 2009 in all EU member states except Denmark. Also, the relevance of the Common Frame of Reference is intended to be addressed during this one-day conference.

April 26, Second High Level Conference on Industrial Competitiveness, Brussels

This conference subtitled The Role Of Policy And Markets In Difficult Times. What Have We Learnt? Where Do We Go? will be the occasion to discuss the options for a "recovery and entry strategy" for the EU from the economic crisis. It will also be the occasion for the new Commission to share its first ideas on the European Growth Strategy (Europe 2020) and on its approach to competition and industrial policy with stakeholders and policy advisers, and to receive feedback on these ideas and policy visions.

European and international policy makers, businessmen, economists and policy advisers are all invited for a frank exchange of views. High-level speakers and panellists such as José M. Barroso, Joaquin Almunia, Antonio Tajani, Nick Reilly, Mario Monti, Xavier Sala-i-Martin and Wolfgang Münchau have confirmed their participation. Other participants will include European ministers, Commissioners, MEPs, business leaders and internationally-renowned economists and journalists. About 400 representatives from the fields of politics, business, academia and the media are expected to participate.

The deadline for registration to participate in the conference is April 18.

This conference will be an opportunity to exchange views on the way forward, organising the debate alongside the axis of the innovation pentagon and through examples of good practice across the EU. Policymakers, entrepreneurs, venture capitalists and business leaders are all invited to share their knowledge and experience in order to tackle the European challenges for innovation.

May 19, European Chemicals Agency - Fourth Stakeholders' Day, Helsinki

The event will focus on IT tools including the upcoming Chesar (Chemical Safety Assessment tool) and the tools for submitting C&L notifications. In addition, online dissemination of information on registered substances and the latest registration and and dossier submission developments and statistics will be discussed. The event is particularly relevant for industry associations, other companies, national authorities and NGOs.
