Brousson set to retain title

The 26th National Scrabble League, sponsored by Tetley Teas, has just passed its halfway stage.

In Division One, Theresa Brousson is cruising towards her fifth successive title, one that would equal the record of David Delicata. The latter must guard against the likes of Mario Saliba, Christine Strawbridge and Jojo Delia who all look capable of threatening his runner-up spot.

In Division Two, Anna Borg, Josephine Mayo and defending champion Frans Farrugia are in contention for the main prize. The leading pack is even more crowded in Division Three as six players are in with a chance of finishing first.

On the margins of this tight contest, the Malta Scrabble Club, newly registered as a sport organisation with the Kunsill Malti għall-iSport, held its third one-day tournament of the year.

Brousson again flexed her lexical muscles to win the tournament unbeaten, ahead of Mary-Louise Mifsud and Mario Seychell. The parallel junior tournament was won by Claire Bugeja who finished ahead of Gaby Mifsud and Louise Camilleri.
