Over the weekend, Marsa played against returning touring team Brooklands who are on their fourth visit to Malta.
On Saturday, the Marsa team won the toss and elected to bowl first. Alan Clowes and Caleb Jones opened the batting for Brooklands. Clowes was first to go and scored 16 runs while Jones ended with 20 runs.
J. Bagshaw hit 24 runs and Stephen Johnson top scored with 34 not out. A great bowling effort from the Marsa bowlers had Brooklands bowled out for 123 runs.
George Agius took three wickets, Andy Lenard two and Nowell Khosla, "SamDhandapani,Mike Caruana and Ronnie Sacco all took a wicket each.
After bowling so well, the Marsa side thought they had the game won. Brooklands were not to be outdone and performed even better than the Marsa, bowling out the home team for 81 runs.
Lenard top-scored with 29 runs and Nowell Khosla made 13 runs. For Brooklands, Douglas Wyley was the main wicket taker with three, while Stephen Johnson and Will Mitchell took two each. Brooklands took a 1-0 lead in the series.
On Sunday, the Marsa team won the toss again and this time elected to bat first. Tony Azzopardi and Sam Aquilina got the hosts off to a great start having 45 runs on the board before Aquilina was bowled for 15.
Azzopardi went on to top score with 30 runs, including a four and a six. After such a positive start, the only person to reach double figures was Agius who made 10 runs. The Marsa team were bowled out for 102 runs. Bagshaw was the main wicket taker with three, while Doughty and Maitra took two wickets each.
Maitra capped his three wickets with 51 runs with the bat, helping his side to an emphantic victory. Johnson continued where he left off the day before making 44 runs not out. Brooklands went 2-0 up in the series.
Tomorrow at 10.30 a.m., the third game will be played with the Marsa team looking to win a match in this series and also searching for a first victory over Brooklands.
Next weekend, the Marsa team will play against new team Essington CC in a two-game series.
