Dive Systems’ Chief Instructor Joseph Chircop, better known to his friends as Derek, logged his 25,000 dive during a PADI Rescue Diver training session on Saturday.

He started diving at the age of 14 and started working as an instructor in 1978.

Mr Chircop has worked with several local diving schools and ran his own dive schools ‘Derek’s Scuba School’ and ‘North East Diving Services’ for a number of Years.

In recent years he has been working in the Maldives, Egypt and Kuwait as an instructor. Mr Chircop is a PADI Staff instructor, CMAS Three Star Instructor and SSI Dive Con Specialist.

Mr Chircop said that notwithstanding all the diving he has done over the years, he still has a passion for diving.

“My next holiday will be a diving trip. Many ask me how on earth could I go diving when I’m on holiday since this is my job, but I still have a great passion for diving and so it is only natural for me”.

Dive Systems Director Paul Sciberras said it was a great pleasure to work with a person with the experience and know-how that Mr Chircop had, and the 25,000 dives he had logged was an important milestone.
