The Parent and Client Educational Services (Paces) within Inspire, the Foundation for Inclusion, recently organised Down Syndrome Awareness Week.

Several activities were held to raise awareness about Down Syndrome and how it affects the individual.

Students attending Paces, together with their families, visited Health Minister Joseph Cassar in Valletta and Opposition leader Joseph Muscat and his wife Michelle at the Labour Party headquarters in Ħamrun.

A short study about the importance of early intervention, by educator Stacey Grima was presented during these visits.

In schools, children who attend Paces set up posters about the syndrome. A tombola party was held at Inspire in Marsascala and proceeds were in aid of support services being offered within the programme. At Inspire, Paces provides services for under-16s with Down Syndrome.

Learning opportunities for these individuals are offered within the home, the school and the community. One of the most important services within the programme is the weekly home tutoring. Regular ongoing therapy is also provided.
