The private Presidential gardens welcomed the public this morning for the inauguration of an aviary on the occasion of President George Abela’s first term in office.
Dr Abela started his day with Easter Mass at the chapel at San Anton after which figolli where distributed to the gathering.
He then walked on to the gardens where he inaugurated a large aviary filled with parrots and parakeets from all over the world.
A special room has been set up for breeding with CCTV cameras to provide schoolchildren with an experience of watching the birds nesting from a video in another room without the birds being disturbed.
A spokesman for the President said it was Dr Abela’s wish to make the private gardens accessible to the public turning them into recreational areas with a variety of animals where families could relax, learn and enjoy themselves.
