March - slightly warmer and wetter than normal

A total of 70.8 mm of rain fell last month, which was higher than the climate norm for March by 29.8 mm., the Met Office at MIA said today. There were 10 rainy days; the wettest day was the 7th with a total of 43.6 mm, followed by the 12th with 4.8 mm.

There were 10 rainy days; the wettest day was the 7th with a total of 43.6 mm, followed by the 12th with 4.8 mm. The highest March rainfall on record occurred in 1925 with a total of 178.0 mm, while the driest one was that of 1977 with just 0.40 mm.

The mean temperature last month was 13.8 °C which was slightly higher than the climate norm by 0.4 degrees. The warmest March since 1923 was that of 2001 with 16.9 °C and the coolest March was 1953 with a mean temperature of 11.4 °C.

A maximum temperature of 23.9 °C was registered at Luqa Airport on March 1st. This makes it the third ever highest temperature recorded at Luqa Airport since 2000. This warm day was brought about by the passage of a thermal ridge over the central Mediterranean.

A mean relative humidity of 80.8% was recorded last March, which was 0.2% higher than the average March mean. The most humid March since 1951 was that of 1969 and 1972 with a value of 86%.
