Bamba Ibrahim Bamba Gumar, a-24-year-old Ivorian, was this afternoon denied bail after pleading not guilty to attacking three police officers and of being in possession of a knife.

Sources said that the man, who needed some papers, was seen knocking violently at the door of Dar l-Emigrant in Valletta this morning.

Police Inspector Pierre Micallef Grimaud said that a police sergeant tried to calm him down but he threw the officer on to the road and it took three to stop him.

He was taken to the police station where he was aggressive and uncooperative.

Initially, he also refused to allow the police to search him.
