An Elvis impersonator of Gozitan descent will be representing Australia in the Elvis World Cup to be held in Cardiff, Wales, on July 4.

Mark Andrew Tabone beat 12 other contestants last weekend to win the Elvis World Cup Qualifier, Down Under. Among the judges were the real Elvis's former manager and friend Joe Esposito.

Mr Tabone impersonates various characters including Dean Martin, Austin Powers, Tom Jones and Grease main character Danny Zuko, played by John Travolta.

Born in Melbourne, he spent most of his childhood and teenage years in Nadur, where he also sang with The Tramps.

He launched his Elvis tribute band, Elvis Leaves His Mark, in 1998 and finished in the top five in the Elvis impersonators competition in Memphis in 2002.
