Nestlé S.A. has published the new Creating Shared Value (CSV) Report 2009, which successfully highlights Nestlé's drive in nutrition, water and environmental sustainability and rural development.

Hilary Parsons, Public Affairs Manager for Nestlé S.A., said: "We issued our first global CSV report in 2008 (covering 2007) and committed to issuing a similar report every two years. This new report is our most comprehensive yet and shows our progress in implementing Creating Shared Value across the Company".

The full 90-page CSV Report, demonstrates that Nestlé has achieved a 59 per cent reduction of water withdrawal per tonne of product since 2000.

The Key Performance Indicator section, collected throughout the year by hundreds of employees across the business - from factories to sales and marketing to management, also revealed that over 160,000 individual farmers and suppliers were trained through capacity-building programmes.

Last year also saw significant improvements in greenhouse gas emissions, water use and creation of waste and by-products. With regards to nutrition, over 7,200 Nestlé products have been renovated for health considerations and over 3,300 now have reduced sugar, sodium, fats or artificial colours.
