Wasteful committee election

I cast my vote, as civic duty dictates. But what a waste of resources!

The election should have been dispensed with altogether. The PL appears to be satisfied with just one candidate: surely a 20 per cent representation could not possibly be denied it.

PN fielded six candidates to elect four. An 80 per cent representation from Madliena cannot possibly be bettered, and even if it eventually does through the ballot, it is not healthy in a democracy for any political unit, whatever its nature, not to have a representative from the opposition.

Common sense, especially in "high-class" Madliena, should have prevailed on two PN candidates to withdraw and save the residents the bother. After all, in contrast to parliamentary, EP or even local council candidates, the five members of the hamlet's administrative committee have no political ambitions, aspirations or differing views... or financial gain. As for myself, the voting provided me with the first opportunity to visit Pembroke beyond its periphery. Lovely place.
