Gasan Mamo employees recently paid a private visit to the Palace Armoury at the Grandmaster's Palace in Valletta. The visit was brought to life by Heritage Malta's technical consultant Michael Stroud.
The event was made possible through Gasan Mamo Insurance's patronage of the Palace Armoury. The insurance company has been affiliated with Heritage Malta since 2006, with funds going to the Palace Armoury for the upgrade of its displays, to provide an educational experience to children through the Young Knights Educational Programme, and to enhance the museum experience for patrons.
The latest ongoing project is the creation of life-size models in full armour and clothing, to make highly visible the evolution of the Knights, that spanned 300 years.
"We wanted to pass on our love for Malta's rich history and heritage to our employees, and share the benefits of our patronage with them," said Albert Mamo, managing director, Gasan Mamo Insurance. "The Palace Armoury is among the most valuable historic sites in Europe. It is this understanding that has spurred Gasan Mamo to contribute towards the restoration and preservation of an important part of this heritage and culture."
The Palace Armoury has one of the world's greatest arms collections dating back to the 15th century, housed in their original buildings and showing the most visible and tangible symbols of the rich history of the Knights.
