Monument to well known sculptor unveiled
The monument to sculptor Anton Agius was revealed for the first time today, just days before it is sent to a foundry in Italy to be cast in bronze.
The committee which has been collecting funds for the monument said it hoped to erect the monument near the Roman Villa in Rabat, close to where several of his works are displayed.
The monument is the work of Joseph Scerri, who had been one of Mr Agius's students.
Art student Monica Spiteri is also involved in the work.

Unfortunately I don't know the artist but I knew Anton quite well. Well done to Scerri. You should be proud of your work. I hope this work is given a prominent place to fit in. Anton Agius filled museums and public places with his works. He deserves it. Well done to the comittee and whoever came up with the idea. Best regards to his wife Louise and son Anton jnr.

@ A. Mizzi, I believe that this merited monument to such a famous sculptor Anton Agius, once it is placed near the Roman Villa at Rabat, will not be wheeled to anywhere else for it is not in the style of L.P. to create pique of this sort. Only what was built by the Labour Goverrnment was found to be mistakenly positioned. Once we were given to understand that beside the Sette Giugnio monument even the Independence monument at Vittoriosa and the Republic monument at Marsa, were to be moved to other sites, but up to now buon sense has prevailed. .

WELL DONE.
A deserved monument to a great artist.
I feel proud to have known Anton, even though in his last years. He will be remembered for his great monuments around the island, and works he had given to the Mdina Museum.
Regards to his wife Louise.

Hopefully , will not be a Monument on Wheels and will not end up like his Sette Giunjo Monument with the damage incurred on it when it was moved where it MAJESTICALLY stood at St. George's Square to a place still to be decided , and be replaced by water sprouts.
