Madliena on the map

As a previous mayor of Swieqi and to date one of only two counsellors from the Madliena area to have served on the Swieqi local council, I am very pleased to see that the central government has realised that Madliena and its residents need to be given more attention within the Swieqi council. Madliena is a large area but because of its very nature there are fewer residents proportionately than in the rest of Swieqi. However, Madliena's needs are no less important and, if left unattended, we run the risk of devaluing such an exclusive area.

Madliena is now one of the hamlets participating in the election for the administrative committees and a group of five people will be elected to represent the area within the local council. My family and I believe so strongly in the need to have representatives to see to the specific needs of the area, that my wife, Mary Anne Abela, is one of the candidates contesting the election.

I really do hope that the Madliena residents take the opportunity to show they approve of this initiative and manifest their support by casting their vote at the new school in Pembroke tomorrow between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m.
