Communications Minister Austin Gatt last year announced the policy and strategy adopted by the government for digital broadcasting, which met general interest objectives.

The authority is playing a key role in this digital switchover. It has been charged with the selection process of the stations that will become General Interest Objective channels and carried on the digital multiplex platform operated by PBS Ltd.
