Illegal migrant jailed
An illegal immigrant who already escaped from Malta once before was yesterday jailed for six months for trying to leave the island on Tuesday using false Italian travel documents.
Harun Nasir Iddris, 32, of Togo had absconded last December but was returned by the Italian authorities in January and then charged with leaving Malta illegally. He pleaded not guilty and was granted bail.
Mr Iddris yesterday admitted to breaching bail conditions, trying to leave the island using a false Italian resident permit card, an Italian identity card and an Italian passport.
Magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera jailed him for six months after taking into consideration his early guilty plea.
Police Inspector Geoffrey Azzopardi prosecuted. Lawyer Martin Fenech appeared for Mr Iddris.

How many empty prison cells are left? With this rate it won't be long before the prison will be full-up!! How long more shall this madness continue before the government does something effective?

He probably arrived in Libya illegally, lived and worked in Libya illegally, left Libya illegally, arrived in Malta illegally and has been trying to leave Malta illegally. He does not want to stay in Malta. He wants to go to Italy, but Italy does not want him because it sent him back. Everybody knows where Togo is on the map. What is the Maltese government waiting for to send him back to his own country? If it cannot, why do we not ask the Swede Cecilia Malmstrom, the EU Commissioner who protects illegal immgrants, to take care of him? Perhaps send him to Sweden?

you should restrict your comments to your area of expertise, education, and not comment about law, about which you know nothing.
