Glaucoma equipment
I refer to the article on glaucoma screening (March 18). Though no mention was made that the glaucoma screening equipment in the health centres had been donated by Lions Clubs of Malta from funds raised by the clubs and through a grant from LCIF (Lions Clubs International Foundation), the Lions of Malta are proud and glad that at last through their hard, unselfish work the Maltese people are becoming more aware that glaucoma can result in blindness.
The Lions Clubs of Malta have been in the forefront to make people aware of this silent disease. Hence, perhaps a simple mention that the Lions Clubs of Malta had donated the glaucoma screening equipment would have been in order.
Lions Clubs International have since its institution in 1917 been associated with projects involving eyesight and blindness. The Lions Clubs in Malta have for years been involved in similar projects. The donation of the glaucoma screening equipment 15 years ago and the donation of new equipment is evidence of the commitment of the Maltese Lions to help in such projects.

@ chairman of lions club malta,my husband is a diabetic and needs this screening so we would like to say a BIG THANK YOU TO ALL who so unselfishly helped to fund this most precious peice of equipment that can save one of the most precious senses we were born with SIGHT, it was totally wrong not to mention who donated the equipment as the fund raisers were entitled to be recognised and credited for all their hard work, i notice more and more each day how people are quick to criticise but very slow in giving the golden pat on the back where deserved, so on behalf of all users present and in the future who will benefit from this equipment i will personally thank you and all members for making it happen, WELL DONE.

With reference to the open day for Glaucoma screening.....i went to the Health Centre at abt 9am and there was a large queue waiting.....i found out that screening was only offered till noon.......i lost hope of being screened and so left. Why do we call these things "Open Day" when screening is held only until noon!!!!!!

Rightly so I too went to the gzira health centre at 11.20 after being told by the receptionist that I could attend from 08.30 onwards, only to be turned away. I wrote to the Hon J Cassar who replied within a few hours. The Hon J Cassar passed on my e mail to the person who was in charge, but unfortunately havent yet received any feedback.
