On November 18, The Times published my appeal to the St Paul's Bay local council to remove concrete blocks and construction debris from the middle of Piscopo Macedonia Street in St Paul's Bay which constituted a major obstacle and danger to traffic.
Following the publication of this letter, the concrete blocks were removed. Surprisingly enough, they were replaced by concrete bollards. As a result the danger has not been removed, as can be seen from the attached photo.
I have again sent several e-mails to the local council requesting them to take action to remove this danger but they were ignored. The only response I got from the council was that they have referred the matter to Mepa. In my view the council is simply passing the buck because the removal of two concrete bollards and a truck-load of debris does not need any intervention by Mepa. The job, which should not take more than two hours, should be carried out by the council. By not getting the work done, the council is simply abdicating its responsibility.
I had hoped that the 27th meeting of the council, which was held recently, addressed this problem. I did attend the second session on March 18 just in case the matter was raised. However, I did not stay till the end of the meeting because I was very disappointed with the conduct of business. It was a very unruly session with the mayor finding it difficult to stop the councillors from engaging in cross debates which made the proceedings difficult to follow. No wonder that apart from myself there were only two members of the public present for the second session of the council meeting.
I hope that this second public appeal to the local council will not fall on deaf ears.
