Everybody hates White Van Man, according to a poll of UK motorists.

All of those surveyed considered van drivers to be the worst drivers on the roads in a poll conducted by Vaninsurance.co.uk.

The next-worst motorists were young drivers, followed by older drivers, taxi drivers and school-run mothers.

Most of those polled reckoned van drivers went too fast, overtook in dangerous situations, intimidated other road users and drove too close to the vehicle in front.

Lorry drivers, bus drivers and motorcyclists were considered to be among the best drivers on the roads.

Van Insurance Ltd managing director Lee Grandin said: "It is such a shame that UK motorists still believe that van drivers are the worst on the roads.

"In truth, van drivers are often more careful road users as their business is advertised across the side of their van, so they need to 'keep a clean sheet' as they are in public.

"However, it is the one or two bad plain van drivers that are still tarnishing the reputation of everyone else.

He went on: "We are urging all road users to seriously consider who actually is a bad driver on the road, not the perception.

"Chances are that if you are being overtaken in a dangerous situation or being tailgated, then it is by the real bad drivers on the road, such as the travelling salesmen driving BMWs, rather than van drivers."
