Most police, ADT tickets issued in St Julian's

A total of 67,860 contravention tickets were issued by the police and the Public Transport Authority last year, according to information given in Parliament. The contraventions issued by wardens were not included.

Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi said 61,624 were issued by the police and 6,236 by the ADT.

The biggest number of tickets – 8,252 to a total value of €652,708.83 were issued in St Julian’s followed by Floriana – 5,404 (€171,938.5) and Sliema – 4,571 (€161,205.24).

The lowest number of tickets – two, were issued in Kercem, followed by Ghasri – four and San Lawrenz – 13.

A total 31,845 tickets were issued to drivers for for driving up to 15 kilometres over the speed limit, 26,838 for contravening carriageway markings, 18,394 for illegal parking and 16,818 for not having a valid vehicle licence affixed to the windscreen.

13,861 were given for parking in a reserved area without permit, 12,440 for parking within five metres of a corner, 11,379 for parking without a permit or a parking disk, 10,880 for driving at more than 15 kilometres over the limit, 10,857 for not wearing a seatbelt and 8,507 for parking on the pavement.
