9,000 electricity meters bought by Enemalta in 2008 have remained unused and will be sold after a call for tenders, Finance Minister Tonio Fenech said in Parliament.

Replying to a parliamentary question, he said the meters are not being used because of the programme for the installation of Smart meters.

The electronic meters had cost Enemalta €178,489.
