I can confirm the situation outlined in the letter Dilapidated Bus Stops At Mellieha Bay (March 4).

I too have made several phone calls to the Mellieħa local council over the last two years. However, I was given the impression that it was ADT that arranged for the procurement and erection of these bus shelters. My husband also spoke to our mayor about the matter.

May I suggest that our council grab the bull by its horns and get things done pretty smartly. The area close to Għadira Bay is in a terrible mess, with streets and footpaths in Triq is-Sajjieda, Dawret it-Tunnara and Triq it-Trill crying out for immediate action.

A new road, off Triq il-Qarnit, is projected to connect with Dawret it-Tunnara, to make access to the bay a lot easier. However, a leading contractor in the area erected an eight-foot brick fence where the proposed road is to be opened, obstructing half the street along Dawret it-Tunnara from number 162 to number 184. The last time the mayor was contacted - about six weeks ago - I was told that the council has sent an architect to have a look at this fence.

I was there last Sunday and no improvements have taken place at all in the area. Once again, I call for action prior to the approaching summer season - when the residents in the area more than double - and avoid serious accidents.
