Smart City Malta will start its development of the infrastructure network shortly, the group said last Friday.

Below- and above-ground networks will serve as the backbone of services provided at Smart City Malta to cater for business partners on their daily function and activity.

Recently appointed contractor 3 Bees JV is responsible for infrastructure works of Smart City's phase one, which includes the building of service culverts and installation of below-ground utilities. The road base and pavement foundations will also be laid.

Smart City will introduce to the site various networks of services, ranging from potable, irrigation and storm water systems, to the connection of power cables. These essential utilities will provide a benchmark on creating and sustaining an ICT and media business destination.

Above ground, the surfaces will be enforced and made ready to receive the final road and landscape treatments.

The creation of these road networks will allow free-flowing circulation, vehicular and pedestrian, in and around Smart City at Ricasoli.

The planned infrastructure of Smart City Malta focuses on the relationships between structures, networked systems and the environment. Their harmonious integration will support continued growth of the development, providing good working conditions for the knowledge village's business partners and workers.

Smart City Malta is a self-sustained industry township for knowledge-based companies.

A $300 million project in partnership with the government, Smart City Malta is earmarked to become the leading ICT and media cluster in the Mediterranean and the first European outpost of the global Smart City network.

The first 12,000 square metres of office space will be inaugurated later this year.
