Handyman service continues to grow

Close to 1,300 elderly people last year used the handyman service offered by the Department for the Elderly and Community Care.

The department said in a statement this was a 1.9 per cent increase on the previous year.

The aim of the service is to help the elderly and people with a disability continue living an independent life in their own home. They are given advice and assistance on required improvements and maintenance in their homes.

The service offers around 70 different repair jobs. It is given at a cost to the elderly and free of charge to pensioners holding the pink card. People with a disability who live on their own can also utilise the service.
