The government is to hold talks with a consortium led by the giant Austrian gaming company Novomatic with a view to granting it a 10-year concession to manage the Dragonara casino after it submitted the most advantageous bid in a call for tenders.
The consortium - Novomatic Peninsula Consortium - is formed of Novomatic, the Pinnacle Gaming Group and Bianchi Group.
It submitted a €13 million bid and has committed itself with the government to retain the workforce and to invest further in the casino.
Novomatic is a global gaming company and producer of high tech gaming equipment. Its main market is the European Union but it is expanding fast in Asia and Latin America.
Bids for the management of the Dragonara Casino were also submitted by Tomino Limited Dragonara Casino Ltd.
While Novomatic Peninsula Consortium submitted a bid of just under €13m, Tomino Ltd and Dragonara Casino Ltd offered €11million and €10 million respectively.
